Our Hero

The theme of the Verve July project parade is My Hero.  My project celebrates "Our Hero", my husband.  After the Fourth of July parade this year everyone was too tired to walk home!  With a few modifications to the wagon, my husband pulled all 3 kids plus the dog home.

Pottery Inspiration

This week, challenge #8 from the Paper Players is an inspiration - pottery.  I love the colors and patterns on Polish pottery.  I wanted to keep it clean and simple, so I pulled in the colors and rows for this card.

All those dots are created using Practicing Creativity's For the Love of Dots - gotta love it!  This card is also for MFW's Clean and Graphic challenge.  I am hoping to get to some of the other MFW challenges, but time is getting away from me!

Have a great day!

Julie

For the Birds

Hi there!  Today's card was inspired by Card Pattern's sketch #74 and some fun SEI paper I picked up last week.  Add in Little Paper Shop's stamp set Chirp and it's all about the birds.

Here is the sketch so you can play along too (you have until Friday night to link up your creation).

Welcome "Tweet" Baby

Lace, twine, distressing, buttons and sewing.

The challenge this week on Little Paper Shop is distressing, so I used ink to add a vintage touch to all the ivory.  This card is based on Card Patterns sketch #72 , which reminded me of a quilt.  I did flip the sketch and added the tag, but all the elements are there.  To create my quilt, I stamped the script from LPS's Behind the Scenes and then punched out 3/4" squares, matted and sewed away.  The little bird nest was inspired by Joy, who used twine to create the cutest nest HERE.  I pulled out my crimper (and dusted it off) to create my nest - I distressed first, then crimped and cut.  Pink is the challenge on Charisma Cardz.  This fits with the fact that I am thinking pink for my pregnant cousin.  She does not know the sex, we will find out when the little one arrives next week (I am hoping I get to give this card!).
Plus, this week Moxie Fab World is challenging all of us with a different style each day.  I am going with Shabby & Vintage on this one.

Smiles,
Julie

More Verve Goodness

I'm back...2 posts in one day (and yes, I feel ok :>)!).
This one uses the Verve Seeing Stars set.  This is the challenge set this month on the Verve Blog!  Of course I meant to do this challenge awhile ago, but my real life has taken over lately.

7/16/10 ETA - Here is a better pic :>)

This set is another uplifting one from Julee.  I kept it on the clean and simple side and did a little popping on the stars.  I can't wait to do some Fourth of July scrapbooking with this set.  Alyssa recently inspired me with a fab patriotic LO of her son.  We took pictures on the 4th and let's just say these may be miracle pics because I have all 3 kids plus the puppy in one photo - these are the perfect pics for a LO!
(Here is the old pic - just not enough light for all that white!)

Smiles,
Julie

A Sweet Sunday 100 Color Throwdown

I am combining challenges again.  When I (finally) sat down to do a card for Color Throwdown's 100th challenge I could not get this week's Sweet Sunday sketch out of my head so I decided to combine the two!

Color Throwdown is celebrating their 100th challenge in grand fashion.  There is still time to join in the fun, but you have to be quick, the deadline is tonight at midnight.  There is a blog hop along with a ton of prizes - including one from Verve.  Those butterflies are from the new Verve set "Blue Skies" - this set is so inspirational and uplifting in true Verve style.
Here is Karen's Sweet Sunday sketch:
Enjoy your week - wishing you nothing but blue skies!

Julie

Purple Topiary

I combined this week's CPS sketch #174 with LPS's color challenge (LPSC75) Orchid, Razzleberry and Old Olive and came up with this.
All that Razzleberry is so yummy!  I recently saw a card by Angie Hagist in the Summer 2010 Scrapbook & Cards Today magazine that had strips of paper layered to look like siding on a house.  It inspired me to cut strips and layer them on the same color card base.  I left some of the card base showing thru between each strip, plus I added some embossing - lovin' the result!  (Warning:  that means you will be seeing strips again in the future.)

Smiles,
Julie

Where does the time go???  It's July already and that means I am pulling out the Red, White and Blue!  I am drawn to the simplicity of the BoBunny dot paper and there are so many colors to choose from.
